Free film screening and public discussion, the DocuAsia Forum is the first annual film event in Metro Vancouver focusing on sensitive and relevant social issues concerning contemporary Asia. Entering its third year, DocuAsia Forum tells stories about Asia in ways that brief news clips and often-polarized popular commentary simply cannot.
By bringing together filmmakers, artists, academics, community representatives, and the general public, it provides a platform for informed dialogue concerning the current cultural and economic development in Asia, and global implications for the future.
The DocuAsia Forum was initiated by the David Lam Centre of SFU and Cinevolution Media Arts Society in 2009. It is part of Your Kontinent: Richmond International Film and Media Arts Festival (former New Asia Film Festival).
The theme of the 3rd DocuAsia Forum in 2011is Seeking a Sustainable Future. From July 16 to 18, with two venues in Vancouer and Richmond. We will screen two films from Japan and China, Ashes to Honey and Dragon Boat, that raise fundamental questions about the sustainability of our current civilizational trajectory: consumerism, unbridled development, infinite economic expansion with finite resources and the ecological ruin that accompany them.
A special media artwork 3/11 Tsunami Photo Project will also be shown on the Forum.
Shing02, a renowned musician and director of the soundtrack of Ashes to Honey will attend the DocuAsia Forum in Vancouver and Richmond on July 16 and 17.
